ROBOTICS CLUB

5 foot tall, 120 pound robot in search of adults who want to work with students to build not just a technical wonder but also marketable business and leadership skills (and have a wicked fun time, too!). The Skyview StormBots FRC 2811 are a second year FIRST Robotics Competition team (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, please visit www.usfirst.org for more detailed information). FIRST Robotics team are run like start up businesses: we need to find not only the venture capital but also the leadership to guide our business through a highly competitive landscape. Last year we had just 12 students on the team and took 17th place out of a field of 54 teams after 3 days of competition at Portland Memorial Coliseum.
This year we have almost 30 interested and enthusiastic students. We have the technical talent but lack the savvy of marketing and business operations. We need help in setting up a web site (currently at http://stormbots.com/About-us.php ) , managing logistics for transportation to events, creating marketing "buzz" in the local community, mentoring students on business operations like finance and marketing, etc. To make a difference in kids' lives you don't need to be a nerd or propellor head just be willing to share 1-3 hours of your time per week plus your expertise in business between November and March. To volunteer or for more information please email phil.hays@vansd.org
KNOWLEDGE BOWL
The Knowledge Bowl is classed as a club, but is really a competition team fielded by our school to compete with other schools in the Metro league, region and state in a series of academic information games. KB players form a team of four or five and try to answer questions faster and more accurately than another team. The format of the meets is a written round of 60 questions with a 45 minute time limit, then two or three oral rounds in which a buzzer system identifies the first team to have an answer. The competition is fast and intense. Visit KNOWLEDGE BOWLwebsite for additional information.
